Waking

I spent the morning at the library, outlining my new short story, and came home to the news that "Waking Ophelia" has sold to Jim Baen's Universe. After almost withdrawing the story last month, I'm glad I held on to my patience.

In addition to that, my tulips are coming up. The grass is turning green, the trees are budding. The lilacs, once feared dead, are rising up like zombies. I cannot believe that they might have survived. I'm pretty happy and excited, and can't wait to see how they do in the coming weeks. It's warm here. Sunny and bright.

Another One Rides the Bus

I ride the bus almost daily, and the variety of people I see amazes and encourages me. Sometimes, it's the same people. Sometimes, it's not.

Today:

Skinny, Hispanic, sparce facial hair, but bless him for trying the whole beard thing. Maybe 15 or 16. He asked me which bus he needed to take to get farther west. And I said oh the one I just got off of, and he was mad, but I said dude chill, you can take the bus I'm about to take.

He was convinced that he could not, so spent time wandering the platform, looking at other bus schedules, coming back to talk to me (he was trying to get to a gaming store), fretting that he'd missed the last bus, etc.

He told me how his leg and foot hurt, he thought he'd walked too much. His leg was about as big around as a French baguette.

Eventually we got on the bus, and lo and behold, he got to where he was going, and threw his hand up at me in thanks as he left.
