The Wizard of Ozsome.
'Nuff said.
Favorite movie of all time.
That's an overused phrase, but when it comes down to it, it's true for this movie.
I love the cheerfulness, the idea of hope, of home, of friendship, and of the songs.
And Judy Garland.
That girl can SING.
But above all, I love how iconic of a movie it is.
I mean, who HASN'T seen the Wizard of Oz?
I wish I could have been in the movie theater in 1939, watching The Wizard of Oz, and seeing people's reactions when they witnessed the transition from the black, white, and brown colors they were familiar with, to new bright, beautiful and BRILLIANT colors when Dorothy opened that door. The moment that changed movie history!! Priceless.
Here's some trivia for you!
(I've got a lot of things you probably DON'T know. Yay for useless info!)
*The Tin man was originally going to be played by Buddy Ebsen, but he had an allergic reaction to the metal based face makeup for his costume, so they casted Jack Haley as the role.
*You know that giant orange explosion that occurs when The Wicked Witch exits Munchkinland? As you can probably guess, the smoke goes up to hide the trap-door that takes her down. But what you probably didn't know, is that she got burned during the final take. It's supposed to go something like this: "1. Smoke goes up, 2. Trap door takes her down, 3. Explosion." But on the final take, part of her cloak got caught in the platform, causing it to delay the timing, resulting in a 2nd degree burn on her face, and 3rd degree on her hand.
*The cowardly lion's costume is actual lion fur. It weighed 90 pounds.
*Watch when the Wizard's doorman at Oz is crying. His tears come from his eyebrows.
*They went to a secondhand shop to buy Professsor Marvel a used-looking cloak, and they decided on the one you see in the film. But one day when filming, Frank Morgan pulled a tag out from one of the pockets, and it said that the cloak was originally made for L. Frank Baum, the Author of The Wizard of Oz!!
*The "twister" at the beginning of the movie is actually a huge stocking. You think I'm kidding.
There's more, but I want to get back to the movie.
